RIP - Sigmund ‘Ziggy’ Ciffer

It was with great sadness that I learnt of the death of Sigmund ‘Ziggy’ Ciffer yesterday. In January 2020 I was proud to organise an event on Holocaust Memorial Day which was attended by over 100 pupils, representing 20 schools from across the North East. At that point Ziggy was 93 years of age, but thanks to the support of Nigel Canin and 2Simple he travelled to the North East and my former school of Lanchester EP to share his incredible story as a Holocaust survivor with North East pupils. Ziggy’s was passionate that people should know what happened and he described that he got energy whenever he told his story. He wanted people to understand how important it is to be kind to each other. Ziggy may now be gone, but his incredible legacy lives on and I am proud to have met this inspirational man. Rest in peace Ziggy.
